A Boston neighborhood · Massachusetts

Overview

Welcome to
South Boston.

South Boston — Southie to everyone who lives there — runs from the Broadway corridors out to the beaches, and it has managed one of Boston's most remarkable transformations while keeping its identity intact. Triple-deckers and rowhouses fill the side streets, many now converted to condos that draw young buyers priced out of downtown, while new construction rises along the edges closest to the Seaport's jobs. East Side, West Side, and City Point each carry their own loyalties, and the St. Patrick's Day parade is still the city's biggest neighborhood event.

The waterfront is the underrated asset: Castle Island, Pleasure Bay, and the M Street beaches give Southie miles of public shoreline and a waterfront running loop most suburbs would envy. The Red Line stops at Broadway and Andrew, buses cover the east side, and the Seaport and downtown are genuinely walkable from much of the neighborhood. South Boston is one of the city's strongest markets — for the citywide picture, visit our Boston page.
