That mix means a fair number of Westborough households have a commute measured in minutes — and it means the town's tax base carries more of the load than it would in a purely residential suburb.

Westborough Public Schools serves about 3,650 students and moves children through the grades as a cohort rather than by neighborhood after the early years. Pre-K begins at the Westborough Early Childhood Center; elementary students attend Armstrong, Fales, or Hastings for grades K–3 (the district has been working through a K–3 redistricting review, so boundary questions are worth asking before you commit to a street); everyone in grades 4–6 attends Mill Pond School; grades 7–8 attend Gibbons Middle School; and Westborough High School takes it from grade 9 through graduation. Westborough sits on the eastern edge of Worcester County, about 29 miles west of Boston and 12 miles east of Worcester, with Lake Chauncy, Sandra Pond, and a broad band of swamp and woodland shaping where the neighborhoods could go. It borders Northborough to the north, Marlborough to the northeast, Southborough to the east, Hopkinton to the southeast, Upton to the south, Grafton to the southwest, and Shrewsbury to the west. Riders heading toward Boston pass through Southborough, Ashland, and Framingham on the same commuter rail line, which is why buyers often compare all four before choosing.
