South End.
A Boston neighborhood · Massachusetts
Overview
Welcome to
South End.
The South End holds one of the largest intact Victorian rowhouse districts in the country — mile after mile of brick bowfronts on tree-lined streets that bend around small English-style parks and squares. It's also Boston's restaurant neighborhood, with Tremont Street and the surrounding blocks packing in more acclaimed kitchens per square foot than anywhere else in the city, and the SoWa district adding galleries, studios, and the Sunday open market that takes over Harrison Avenue all summer.
The market runs from garden-level one-bedrooms to full townhouses, with condo conversions in former piano factories and new boutique buildings along the Harrison Albany corridor filling out the range. The Orange Line runs the neighborhood's spine at Back Bay and Massachusetts Avenue stations, the Silver Line covers Washington Street, and Back Bay's rail hub is a short walk. The South End is Boston at its most stylish — for the citywide view, see our Boston page.
