Stoneham Public Schools serves the town with three neighborhood elementary schools — Colonial Park, Robin Hood, and South — which feed into Stoneham Central Middle School and then Stoneham High School, home of the Spartans. The district also runs an early-childhood program for its youngest learners. Students seeking a career-and-technical path can apply to Northeast Metro Tech in neighboring Wakefield, where Stoneham is a member district.

Stoneham sits in eastern Middlesex County, roughly nine miles north of downtown Boston, with the Middlesex Fells forming much of its western flank. It is bordered by Reading to the north, Wakefield to the northeast, Melrose to the east, Malden and Medford to the south, Winchester to the west, and Woburn to the northwest.
